Our Honduras Mission Trip
June 19-27, 2004
by Daniel Freeman
Our
mission trip to Honduras was by far the most incredible thing I’ve ever done. We
went to try and make a change in Honduras, with other missionaries. But
really, God changed us.
Our mission team from America was (L-R):
Priscilla Hsu,
Ryan Stallings, me and my sister, Kate.
We left on June 19, 2004 from the Miami
National Airport to Honduras with Mr. Rose.
Our mission
team didn’t consist of just us four
teens. Every missionary In Honduras was
on our team.
On
arriving in Honduras we were picked up by Mr. Rose’s family
and other missionaries.
During
the next eight days we spoke at
different churches on many different subjects. I talked about a clear
conscience, Ryan talked about the church
standing alone and
how much Honduras was changing him,
Kate talked about Honduras changing her,
and so did Priscilla.
We taught at the town school throughout the week,
teaching Bible stories. We
worked on the community center getting it
ready for some big revival meetings that we
attended
and worked at. We hit the streets handing out countless tracts and
invitations to the revival, all over El Eden.
Throughout the whole week we learned the
power of prayer. When we
got together and prayed, things
began
to happen. There were
times
when
we felt tired, lonely, angry
or sad. But
when we got together and cried
out to God, whether it was
on a
street corner or in our rooms,
together or alone, Jesus was there like none of us had ever felt Him
before. He gave us energy, strength and words to say. Many
times, none of us had any idea
what we were going to say.
We would stand up in front
of everyone, at a church
or a school, and start out
with: “Good evening.”
Our translator would translate it and in that time, while he was
translating, the next words would come to us, completely inspired by God.
We learned contentment. After seeing the poverty there, I have no right to complain about anything.
Many missionaries are still
over there, some
to stay forever. And though we’ve
come home, it doesn’t end for them. Please remember and pray for them, as
they have given their rights, homes,
possessions and their lives to serve Jesus where He
calls them.
And it hasn't
ended for us either.
It’s given us new strength to talk and pray with
people
about Jesus. On the way back from Honduras on the airplane Kate started
talking to the man sitting next to her. He had given up on Jesus and had
lots of
problems. But by the end of the trip he had
rededicated his life to the Lord, and
told her: “If I never see you again, I’ll see you in heaven.” And Kate told
him: “That’s right. You’re my brother in
Christ.” And I have been able to witness to
people I didn't even know.
So many things happened. And we changed so much. These are only some of the things we did and learned. I can’t write it all down. But, these verses explain much of what we learned:

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
He answers him from His holy heaven.
With the saving power of His right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
Psalm 20:6-8
